Located in a warehouse district along a pier, this arts-and-media school wanted to revitalize its campus and draw attention to its mission. The school’s multimedia curriculum suggested a plan that foregrounds communication and access.
To embody the flow, flux and energy of the school and media, our design promoted the cross communication of every medium at varying scales. To accommodate the students’ performances, presentations, exhibitions, screenings and readings while accepting the building’s core programmatic elements, the available floor space was maximized by introducing interior and exterior wall panels that can be reconfigured. A series of articulated flat and sloping floor plates create a flowing landscape, mimicking the encounters and interactions across the media focuses on display and in the classroom.
