Our loft for a family of four is an example of how design can enrich the practice of everyday life, creating a procession of moments that frame and express a desire for warmth, intimacy and stability.
The entryway, thickened on either side by deep closets, sanctifies a liminal experience. The teak veneer of the passage visually communicates with the teak veneer of the open kitchen’s cabinets and, farther on, the custom bookcases. In the living room, a well-coordinated materials palette establishes a rich background for the enormous windows. Full-height glass-panel doors provide a naturally lighted element and mark off the sleeping area. Between the master bedroom and the master bathroom, another closet vestibule keeps things cozy and filled with light.
